International Paper, in international leader in the manufacture of printing and writing paper and packaging, has just reported on the progress of its global sustainability targets for 2020, to which the company freely committed in 2011. By 2015, the company had cut pollutant emissions (SOx, NOx, MP) by 18%, 8% over its target, and oxygen-depleting substances were lowered by 17% in factory wastewater, 2% more than what was expected for the end of the period. This information is from the 2015 Sustainability Report, which includes the company’s key achievements, challenges and initiatives from January 1 to December 31 of the last year.

The document, which covers all of the company’s Latin American units, is produced in line with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which is internationally recognized for establishing economic, environmental and social principles and performance indicators. “The report is an IP tool that allows us to show the company’s commitment to sustainability and renewable resources,” says Glenn Landau, the President of International Paper Latin America.

It also highlights the expansion of International Paper Institute projects and actions, which received an investment of over BRL 2.5 million in 2015 and had a direct impact on over 39,000 people through 27 initiatives.
